Sharing Friends

Jealousy has two seats. Gratitude or comparison. One seat is the comparison seat and we all know what that can do… it can stop you from running your own race and it slowly begins to consume your thoughts and actions.

The other seat is gratitude by having a thankful voice you can block toxic emotions, envy, and resentment. Jealously has the ability to destroy happiness it's a yucky feeling.

How do we help our friends and ourselves navigate the emotions and pull out of them stronger?

I'll give you 5 ways to get back to being grounded and confident.

  1. Acknowledge the jealous thought. Call it out. Be willing to accept the negative yucky feeling. Know that these emotions are normal and valid. My suggestion is to tell someone you trust how you feel and then together you can dissect it and get to the root of the issue.

    2. Don't feed the jealous thoughts. Yes, hard to do but don't keep feeding it, it will only grow and you may regret something you say. When this happens you need to refocus your mindfulness to gratitude to giving thanks to that friend. Saying 3 things that make you enjoy being around them. This skill can interrupt the cycle of negative thinking.

    3. Ask yourself why do I feel threatened and what am I threatened for? Answer those questions and you may find that your thoughts are silly. Most of the time it's an insecurity in us and we have to figure that out first.

    4. Focus on Self-improvement If you feel jealous of a friend this may be an indication that you’re unhappy with your own circumstances. Jealousy can uncover areas of yourself and your life that need attention and improvement. Focusing on setting goals that would improve the way you feel about yourself and your life can boost your self-esteem, making you less vulnerable to jealousy.

    5. Strength your friendship. Jealousy comes up during times when you feel threatened or worried about being replaced, hurt, or betrayed by a friend. This is why you may be especially jealous when you are particularly scared of losing someone. You can do some simple things like send a thoughtful card, message, or text to let them know you’re thinking of them. Tell them you miss them and suggest ideas to see each other more.

This jealousy thing is all normal and it will always happen throughout your life.

Jealousy is an emotional response that occurs when a person believes a relationship is being threatened by an outside person, activity, or situation. Jealousy often involves a mix of anger towards the “rival” or threat, personal insecurity and self-doubt, and a fear of being replaced. The dictionary definition.

Jealousy normally shows up when a person feels insecure, threatened, or worried about losing a friend. Learning how to cope with jealousy and talking openly with friends can help you overcome jealousy and can keep it from hurting your friendships.

Practice the above techniques so that when you feel hurt you can walk through it with a clear head and overcome that yucky feeling. You will feel better and you will create a stronger relationship with your friends and yourself by just asking yourself those simple questions.
